Course Introduction
This 5-day course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of hazardous area classification and the proper selection and use of certified electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres. The course covers the principles, standards, and best practices for identifying hazardous areas, classifying them according to the level of risk, and selecting the appropriate electrical equipment for use in these environments. Participants will gain hands-on experience in interpreting standards such as IECEx, ATEX, NEC, and understand the importance of compliance in ensuring safety in hazardous areas.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand the principles of hazardous area classification and the types of explosive atmospheres.
Interpret and apply international standards for hazardous area classification (IECEx, ATEX, NEC).
Identify the key factors involved in hazardous area classification, including temperature, pressure, and chemical properties.
Select and specify certified electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas.
Understand the different types of explosion protection methods (e.g., flameproof, intrinsically safe, etc.).
Develop and implement a hazardous area classification plan for different industrial settings.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for safety.
Target Audience
This course is intended for:
Electrical engineers and technicians working in industries with explosive atmospheres (oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, etc.)
Safety managers and compliance officers
Maintenance personnel responsible for equipment installation and operation in hazardous areas
Project managers and engineers involved in hazardous area design and equipment selection
Anyone involved in ensuring safety and compliance in hazardous environments
Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety principles.
Knowledge of industrial environments where hazardous materials are present is beneficial but not mandatory.
