Course Introduction

Amine gas treating, also known as amine scrubbing, gas sweetening and acid gas removal, refers to a group of processes that use aqueous solutions of various alkylamines (commonly referred to simply as amines) to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from gases. It is a common unit process used in refineries and used in petrochemical plants, natural gas processing plants and other industries. Sour water stripping is Liquid hydrocarbons entrained in the sour water then removed in the feed prep tank, and it is then heated in the feed/bottoms exchanger and fed to the stripper column. Steam, generated in the reboiler, heats the water and strips the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3) from the water.

Safety is of prime importance in Amine Plants operations, and there is no exception. Amine treating plants have natural gas under pressure, rotating equipment, toxic gases, high voltage, etc. The Production of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG): Amine Treating and Sour Water Stripping Process training course will facilitate the delegates to know all the safety procedures and accept that safety is everyone’s responsibility is their duty to report any safety hazard or potential safety issues.

Objectives

At the end of the course, the delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the gas sweetening process and the reason to remove the contaminants from the natural gas stream (Hydrogen Sulfide and Carbon Dioxide)
  • Know the functions of the process control systems, including instrumentation and logic
  • Distinguish how to identify process equipment faults (to include the lack of services and supply, variances in services, process and utility setting deviations)
  • Understand the operator duties when operating the Amine System
  • Know that sour water stripping removes (H2S) & (NH3) from water that will be reused after treatment
  • Describe the sour water stripping process, including all the equipment associated with this process

Training Methodology

This training course will use course notes, PowerPoint displays, tabletop exercises, videos, plot plans, P&ID’s, role-play scenarios and assessment exercises to determine competency.

Professional Impact

The participants will have to:

  • Apply the safety procedures on an NGL Plant
  • Know their roles during an emergency and obtain knowledge of the emergency procedures
  • Understand the continuous training required to work on these plants
  • Understand and describe the process through the Agru system with descriptions and functionality of the equipment used in this process
  • Describe the process of mercury removal and why it is performed
  • Knowing the complete sour water stripping process is complex and expensive to perform
  • Use how to remove (H2S) & (NH3) in producing reusable water

Target Audience

This training course is designed for all professionals who work or have ambitions to work on an NGL Plant. This could include:

  • Supervisors
  • Technicians
  • CRO’s
  • Managers
  • Admin staff
  • Contractors
  • Operators
  • Apprentices
