Course Introduction
A process plant is predominantly made up of piping and other mechanical equipment. Engineers and Technicians, including new Mechanical Engineering graduates who work either in the design office or a process plant and who, although qualified in their own discipline, may not have received adequate Mechanical Engineering training, can open the door to understand many concepts of mechanical design. To be effective, Engineers, Technicians and personnel of all disciplines should have a fundamental understanding of the principles that dictate the requirement of plant design by the Construction Code. The course is designed to give an insight to the plant piping and pressure vessels with reference to Codes ASME B31.3, Sec VIII Div 1 and ASME PCC-2 and an overall concept of major mechanical equipment used in a typical process plant.
This 5 days course is designed to meet the needs of Engineers, Technicians and personnel of all disciplines (Quality, Safety and Process/Production) from Design, Construction and Owner Companies
This training course will highlight:
- A basic understanding and knowledge of process piping, pressure vessels and equipment typically required by any process plant
• An awareness of the applicable codes and standards used in a process plant design and post-construction. - To deal with the mechanical maintenance of a process facility with acceptable industry best practice.
Objectives
At the end of this training course, attendees will learn to:
- Understand the importance of the code requirement/compliance.
- Gain insight of design basis used by the most common Codes/Standards.
- Learn to deal with acceptable repair and maintenance practice of plant equipment.
- Gain confidence to work independently.
- Expand knowledge to supervise junior engineers.
Additionally, by taking this training, attendees will have the following benefits:
- Enhance their knowledge base.
- Be more confident in their decision-making.
- Be technically sound. Understand the technical basis of doing a new construction/repair.
- Participate in a wider inter-department/ Third-Party discussion on equipment repair/construction.
Learning Approach
A classroom setting is used for this intensive training because for the complexity of the subject matter with a video presentation in a big screen that helps students with better visualization supported by flip charts and whiteboards where students and the Trainer interact in real time to clear their understandings.
It is also seen as a great platform where students put forward their different viewpoints and have an inter-student discussion to clarify their understanding in the presence of the Trainer.
The course is written with abundant case studies and real-life examples to make the theories easier to understand.
Target Audience
Any non-mechanical engineer/Technologist from any discipline who wants to expand their knowledge in mechanical engineering and promote their career by expanding their areas of expertise to lead and supervise a plant operation and maintenance or a team of multi-discipline engineers.
New and mid-level Mechanical Engineers who want to expand their knowledge base on areas not extensively covered in the school and experience the application of theories into practice.
