Course Introduction

This 5-day course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of workplace safety management and the practical skills needed to ensure safety in the workplace. It is tailored for managers, supervisors, and employees who need to be able to assess risks, manage health and safety issues effectively, and understand their roles in fostering a safe working environment. By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to promote a proactive safety culture within their teams and organizations, aligning with IOSH standards and best practices.

Day 2: Identifying and Assessing Risks

        Types of hazards: physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychological.

        How to identify hazards in the workplace.

        Methods for assessing and evaluating risks.

 Risk Assessment Process

        Steps for conducting a risk assessment: identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing control measures.

        Risk control hierarchy: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

        Hands-on Exercise: Conducting a basic risk assessment for a work scenario.

Day 3: Controlling Risks and Promoting Safe Practices

Implementing Control Measures

        Practical ways to control and reduce risks in the workplace.

        Developing and implementing safe systems of work.

        The role of training and supervision in risk control.

        Ensuring the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring its maintenance.

 Promoting Safe Work Practices

        Encouraging a proactive approach to health and safety.

        Engaging employees in safety activities and creating a safety-first culture.

        Conducting safety briefings and meetings.

        Hands-on Exercise: Developing a safety promotion plan for a department or team.

Day 4: Incident Reporting and Investigation

        Developing corrective and preventive actions to avoid future incidents.
